Signs It's Time To Replace Your Home's Old Double-Pane Windows

Blog

If your home has old double-pane windows, they may have started looking rather rough, and you are thinking about getting new ones installed. However, if your old windows are exhibiting any of the signs below, it is time to seriously consider having them replaced.

Condensation Forms Between the Panes

One sign that your old windows have become so worn that they are no longer functional is when condensation forms between the window panes. Even when it is not raining outside, you may see moisture stick to the glass, making them appear foggy all of the time.

When the glazing on the windows starts to deteriorate, or if the glass has started to separate from the frame, it lets small droplets of water in between the pieces of glass. Then, as the sun hits the panes, the steam created forms the condensation.

Drafts Are Felt When the Windows Are Closed

Condensation is not the only problem that is caused by deteriorating double-pane windows. If the frame has started to separate from the glass enough allow water to seep in, these tiny spaces are enough for air to creep into your home.

As a result, you may start feeling drafts even when all of the windows are closed. And, if drafts can enter your home, air from your heater or air conditioner can escape. As the windows become more worn out and damaged, you may start seeing incremental increases in your energy bills.

Gaps Appear Between the Windows and Frames

Once your windows have become very old and worn, they may start pulling away from their frames, creating large gaps. Through these gaps, you will have even more air coming in and going out of your home, as well as start having puddles of water around the windows.

These gaps also cause a misalignment between the windows and the frames. As a result, you will find it harder to open and close the windows.

And, as you struggle to move the windows up and down, the vibrations and wiggling of the windows will create larger gaps, making them even larger. After a while, the windows could become so weak that they break while you try to move them.

If your double-pane windows are showing any of the above signs, it may be time to have them replaced. Contact a residential window installation service to discuss your options for replacing your old windows with either new double- or triple-pane windows.

Understanding Window Upgrades For Commercial Buildings

Hello, my name is Donald Clemins. I am here to talk to you about windows for commercial buildings. When I purchased my first storefront, I was shocked to feel cold drafts coming in through the picture windows. The drafts made it feel like the front door was propped wide open. I knew my customers would feel uncomfortable sitting there due to the drastic temperature fluctuations. I contacted a window installer to talk about my options. I was amazed to hear about all of the different types of windows available for my storefront. I would like to share that information on this site to help other people find the best windows for their commercial buildings. I will focus on window material and build upgrades as manufacturers make new developments. Thank you.
